Crieff Cowches Auction raises more than £20,000 for SCAA

In a final moove, the Crieff Cowches which were conceived and delivered by Crieff Succeeds, were auctioned at a dinner held at Crieff Hydro on Wednesday 9th October. The event included music performed by students from Morrison’s Academy, comedian Jim McCreadie as Maser of ceremonies, auctioneer Jim McLaren and Crieff Army Cadet Force members provided the muscle for the night mooving the cowches as required.

Johnston Media kindly live streamed the auction on our behalf so that people could watch the bidding wherever they were. Apparently more than two hundred people chose to watch it this way.

Bidding for some cowches was pretty fierce and Jim McLaren brilliantly kept things moving at a lick. Sweetie Annie, the mosaic cowch by artist Katy Galbraith sold for the second highest sum, £3,600 to local business man John Dewar. Crieff Highald Gathering had to fight quite a battle to secure their cowch, designed by local artist June McEwan. Bidding was fast and furious and the cowch eventually sold for the highest sum of the evening at £3,700. The Board of Crieff Highland Gathering are hoping to secure planning permission from Perth and Kinross Council for it to be permanently positioned in James Square for everyone to enjoy.

Overall the sale of the eleven cowches raised more than £20,000 for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. Nick Harvey, SCAA’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, praised the Crieff Succeeds campaign, saying the creativity of the artists combined with the engagement of the community in supporting this initiative will ultimately help save lives across the whole country.

Moodnight Gardens and On Watch were bought by Loch Earn Tourism Information (LETi) with money from local businesses, community groups, associations and residents. On Watch will sit outside Lochearnhead village hall and Moodnight Gardns will be placed in St Fillans opposite the Four Seasons Hotel, so both of them will be sitting on the old drovers road heading back to Crieff.
