Crieff Maker Space

Free Access to Creative Technology

Following the success of the Maker Space at the AK Bell Library in Perth, Culture Perth and Kinross (CPK) are considering creating a similar resource in Crieff, based at the Community Campus.

The Maker Space at AK Bell was established last September and has proved to be extremely popular with local creatives and businesses as a resource providing free access to creative technology for all library members.

What’s a Maker Space?

It’s a dedicated area equipped with pc’s set up with the Adobe Creative Cloud (including software such as PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign and much more), a 3D scanner and printer, a wide screen format printer, a green screen, pod cast equipment etc.  The Maker Space has become a creative area where people start to share knowledge and ideas as they develop their use of the facilities.

Whilst the Maker Space encourages people to develop their own skills, CPK have also run ‘How to get started’ sessions which aim to give people enough info /confidence to book in and start using the equipment.

Open to all, individuals, businesses, local groups and organisations there’s a number of ways it can help support their activities, business practice and events such as development of posters, banners, making short films, online presence, branding etc, as well as encouraging development in design work incorporating new technologies into their practice.

How Can You Help?

To take the idea forward, CPK need to understand what level of support there would be for a resource like this. They are asking local artists, groups, businesses etc how likely they would be to make use of this kind of facility in Crieff:

  1. How useful would it be to have these kinds of creative technologies available to use in Crieff?
  2. What kind of ways might you use the Maker Space? (using the examples mentioned above)?
  3. How likely are you to develop your own creative technology skills if a facility like this was in place?

If you are interested in this initiative and have alternative ideas and thoughts, please send your responses either to myself or Kirsty Brown at Culture Perth and Kinross – kirstybrown@culturepk.org.uk

It sounds like a good idea!

Kind regards
