The New V&A Dundee

One of the many activities which Crieff Succeeds BID undertake is to attend regular Perthshire Tourism Partnership meetings on behalf of our levy payers. These meetings help us to keep abreast of local tourism focussed developments and initiatives and share this information with our members so that they can use it to the benefit of their businesses.

You are probably already aware that the V&A in Dundee will be opening on 15th September. You might not be aware though that it will be the only V&A museum anywhere in the world outside of London and so has the potential to draw visitors from across Scotland, northern England and beyond not only to Dundee but to the whole region. As Dundee is only an hours drive away from Crieff it may have an impact on visitor numbers here and is also another another activity/trip you could recommend to your visitors and guests.

The V&A Dundee will be the first ever dedicated design museum in Scotland: an international centre for design, a place for inspiration, discovery and learning. Visitors will experience the story of design past, present and future and appreciate the impact it has on all of our lives. There will be permanent displays alongside an ambitious programme of changing exhibitions, new design commissions, installations by emerging designers and creative learning projects. Not only will it bring exhibitions from the V&A in London to Dundee but it will also develop its own exhibitions.

The opening exhibition ‘Ocean Liners: Speed & Style’ will explore the design and cultural impact of the ocean liner on an international scale and is co-organised by the V&A and the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts.

Entry to the museum will be free, with free access to design galleries and activities. Access to the temporary exhibitions will be charged for.

You may want to go and take a look for yourself and see what all the fuss is about or you can visit their website: or contact them directly about the potential impact it will have on tourism:
